Meridian Challenge #3

Our challenge for James this week was to test his core strength and stamina, we set him the task of doing 50 sit ups in 1 minute! Find out how James got on...

The challenge: Again, I need to be really well warmed up to tackle these, plus focused on beating the challenge. 59 sit-ups using hands on hips to knees technique. I had previously planned to aim for one/second, but in practice sessions only achieved 50 at home. Amazing how the right environment provides mental strength to go that bit extra!

James sit up challenge

James we are very impressed! It's great to see our challenges are helping you see improved results!

Our Challenge for this week:
Are there any foods that you eat every single day that help you stay in shape?

James nutty workout routine:

Monday PT Session

A focus on Thai kicks, working the legs so that the shin makes contact with the opponent & the force of kick telegraphed through into the opponent. The sparring & focus pad sessions continue to develop for style & co-ordinating stance & strikes.

Tuesday

No training today due to meetings away in our Estate Office, Hampshire. 5 hours of driving & 8 hours at a desk not a healthy combination! No time for stretch out in the evening either and I have this week’s challenge tomorrow!

Wednesday

Go for a PT session. An intense work out required! After warm up, 3 x2 minute pads rounds, ending in Swiss ball jack knifes.

Finished the session with another challenge set by PT:

3 x rounds of 1 x minute 8kg kettlebell swings, 1x minute sprints across training floor. See photo for results. I now have to improve on this. Tremendous finish to PT session

Thursday

I’m at our Nut Butter site in North Wales, having made the 5 hour drive the night before to the hotel. An early 06.10 run sees a decent 40 minute run along Llangollen Canal with the River Dee ( attached photo) the other side. A most pleasant start to the day & didn’t see a sole!

James Canal Run

Friday

Concentrated on a early morning home weights & core session. My sit up/core repertoire consists of:

  • 60 x Cross-Arm Crunch
  • 80 x Bicycle Crunch
  • Plank
  • Swiss Ball stability holds
  • Press-Ups using one hand on a medicine ball

This week nutrition was a bit more tricky to get right with travelling in the car & hotel stays. The Meridian Nut Bars are excellent for taking with you when travelling to satisfy that hunger pang on long journeys. Hotel food can be difficult to balance, but when I sit for long hours in car/meetings, I ensure minimum carbohydrate and keep with  good quality proteins such as a handful of nuts in a tub. Stick with relatively light meals at the hotel. Post the early morning run, hotel breakfast consisted of fruit, nuts & a natural muesli, topped off with 2 x poached eggs. A long week, so Friday I treated myself to a big croissant, well filled with Meridian Berry Fruit Spread & lashings of Almond Butter. Yummm!

Thank you James!
