Announcing Meridian's Single Serve Peanut Butter

Meridian Foods is launching the first-ever single serve jars of Meridian Smooth and Crunchy Peanut Butter this month.

The UK's leading producer of nut and seed butters, which do not include palm oil, is introducing 26g single serve jars to help businesses in the catering and hospitality industry meet the demand for the increasingly popular spread.  One in seven people eat peanut butter on a regular basis*, and more than a third (34.1%) of households have purchased peanut butter in the last year*, which is more than chocolate spread and yeast extract - both are currently available in portion packs within UK hotels.

Darren Robinson, Sales Manager at Meridian Foods comments: "Research shows that there is real opportunity to broaden our offer and we're tremendously excited to be making available to the industry a quality branded product".

The peanut butter category grew by 7.1%*** year on year and a strong market in retail indicates a sizeable demand in foodservice. Consumers tend to maintain similar eating habits in both retail and foodservice at breakfast time.

"We like to lead the charge rather than follow the crowd and the response to the 100% nuts and our no palm oil range has given us the confidence to really kick-on and have our peanut butters enjoyed by more people, whenever and wherever they are", explains Robinson

Research by Kantar Worldpanel**** has revealed that breakfast is a growing occasion in the foodservice sector and, within that, toast is the second most important breakfast food.  The research also shows that consumers are looking to eat healthily at breakfast and with Meridian Peanut Butters offering more than a dozen different nutrients to support a healthy lifestyle, the brand can meet this growing demand.

A recent OnePoll omnibus study*****, conducted on behalf of Meridian Foods, revealed that 40% of respondents would like to see a Peanut Butter served as an option at breakfast and 81% would like the choice of a healthy breakfast when staying away from home.

Robinson continues: "Peanut butter's share of the market is now on a par with marmalade and growing.  It has overtaken chocolate spread as a category and we believe that our offer will stand up against other well-known single serve brands in the sector".

Meridian's factory in North Wales produces over 1000 tonnes of peanut butter per annum.

The new jars will be available nationally, through foodservice wholesalers, from February in cases of 45 x 26g jars with a 15-month shelf-life.  Meridian Peanut Butter is also available in 1kg tubs and in 10g bulk tubs.

Meridian Foods is owned by 3V Natural Foods Group.  For more information email
